New projects granted - almost EUR 18000 allocated

The board at its May board meeting in Stockholm decided to grant the following applications:

Project grant #P2305_Janis Volberts, EUR 2000 Project title: “Challengeify Summerschool in Latvia”
Mr Forest is an organization that provides exciting tailor-made tours to entrepreneurs, innovators and students, pleased to provide this platform with global list of real world challenges. The project is about organizing a study field trip to increase participants’ engagement and bounding around specific projects, enhance real life problem solving by applying academic knowledge and improve participants’ satisfaction with the learning process. Expected outcome includes ideas for new startups with teams of students from Sweden and Latvia, knowledge and experience exchange, networking and new contacts, collaboration with local companies and startup ecosystem, new market discovery. Target groups are students from Swedish Universities, mainly World Maritime University, Jönköping University, Malmö University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Project grant #P2312_Madara Lapsa, EUR 3000 Project title: “Empowering Young Women through Intercultural Exchange and Violence Reduction”.
The primary objective of this project is to empower young women, who are victims of violence, by promoting gender equality, women's rights advocacy, and reducing and preventing violence through an international exchange program. This project will bring together Latvian organization Centrs MARTA and the Swedish organization Unizon to exchange experiences, best practices, and strategies for promoting gender equality and preventing violence against women.
Target: young women who are victims of violence, partner is the association Unizon.

Project grant #P2318_Iveta Cālīte-Miglāne, EUR 2400 Project title: “För dig ska musiken bara vara ett smycke (For you music is just an ornament)”
This is a concert project focusing on Fanny Mendelssohn, based on a manuscript, which in turn is an excerpt from a book by Ellinor Skagergård about Fanny Mendelssohn with the same title. The concert brings the audience back to the 19th century and the popular musical salons of this time. Target groups are people interested in women composers and the evolution of women rights and role in society and partners are Amelia Jakobsson (cello/soprano), Helena Maria Falk (violin), Ellinor Skagegard (writer/journalist).

Project grant #P2315_Liselotte Östblom, EUR 3200 Project title: “Swe-Lat Jazz Showcase & Culture exchange”. The project idea is to create a Latvian jazz showcase during the Stockholm Jazz Festival, which will involve collaboration between Latvian jazz musicians and music students from Stockholm. This showcase will include a workshop and a collaborative concert that will be open to the public and require tickets. The main objective is to bring together Latvian and Swedish musicians, and promote awareness of Latvian music during the Stockholm Jazz Festival program, while also fostering relationships between the two groups. Target groups are students of “Lilla Akademien”, as well as other jazz and music enthusiasts based in Stockholm and diasporah. Partner in Latvia is Kultūrtelpas M/DARBNĪCA, M/Darbnīca

Travel grant #T2301_Oskar Söderman, EUR 800 Project title: “Residency at ISSP RIGA”, a two month residency at ISSP Riga to work on editing a project to a book. Doing this within ISSP Residency in Riga among other artists will both benefit the creative process, and simultaneously give insights in the Latvian culture, engaging with the art-community through an artist talk and an exhibition. Partners: Issp Riga

Travel grant #T2302_Marcus Jansson, EUR 3250 Project title: “Scout Camp with Swedish and Latvian Scouts” - a group of 12-18 year old scouts (app 25 participants) will visit the scouts in Sigulda (NE of Riga), a return visit is planned in Sweden next year. This year the weekly activities have focused on the world around us, understanding and helping others. The camp in Latvia represents the peak of this project. Expected outcomes include understanding other cultures and making friends. Partners: Sigulda 83rd Scouts and Guides Unit.

Travel grant #T2304_Rebekah Berger, EUR 1600 Project title: “Future Markers Performing Arts Exchange - Phase 1”, a project that aims at a renewed curiosity towards young artists in Sweden and Latvia. This will be achieved through an ongoing exchange of contexts and performing arts contexts which will be ignited by this funding inviting the first exchange to Riga of three young artists accompanied by a leader of KONTRÄR. Partner in Sweden: Erik Gavelin, curator and producer at Konträr.

Travel grant #T2306_Lilian Lindevall, EUR 700 Project title: “The Sweden-Latvia Cooperation Fund Project”, a project that will integrate sustainable cooperation between Sweden and Latvia. This project would be aligned as part of 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Partners: TechHub Riga and Startup Latvia.
